Royals Volleyball Finals
November 8, 2011
Dear Royals,
George and I returned yesterday from Omaha, Nebraska, where it was our privilege to cheer on our varsity volleyball team at the National Christian Homeschool Volleyball Tournament. Coached by Laura Milton, our team made it to the championship match against the Little Rock Flames. Up until the championship match, we had not dropped a single set through two grueling days of pool play and bracket play. We were 22-0, quite an accomplishment!

This was the first time a Royals volleyball team has made it into the gold bracket, the top division at the tournament. Then, to advance all the way to the championship match was even more amazing! We were beaten by Little Rock in the finals, but I am so proud of our 2nd place national finish, not only because of our play on the court, but because of the unity, and christian character displayed by our players and their families. They are an amazing group of people!

Also, both Kristin Miller and Caitlyn Oligney were named to the all-tournament team. Other team members include: Kailynn Balkum, Taelor Deike, Michaela Hood, Rebecca Johnson, Amy Kolence, Ashton Ordonez, Sophie Rivera, Emily Tasker, Emily Wendlandt, Katie Wendlandt, and Morgan Wendlandt. Give them a big congrats if you see them around!!

Blessings,
Pam Lee

Basketball T-Shirt Design Contest
November 8, 2011
Dear Royals,
If you have an idea for our 2011-2012 basketball t-shirt design, please participate in our contest. If your design is chosen, every member of your immediate family will receive a free t-shirt. Please abide by the following guidelines to insure that your design is considered:

1. Your design must be generated by a graphics program (Ex. Adobe Illustrator)
2. Please limit design to two colors (costs to print go too high with 3 colors or more)
3. Our t-shirt fundraiser sponsors and a scripture will be listed on the back, so only create a design for the front.
4. Make sure you include "Austin Royals" in your design. The word "basketball" is optional depending on the design. You may or may not want to include "2011-2012."
5. Design must be submitted to me by November 13th!

The winning design will be picked by a committee, including some of your basketball coaches!

Blessings,
Pam Lee

Pray for the Perez Family
October 26, 2011
Folks,
Please help me pray for the Perez family, who are dear to my heart. Terry Perez has gone home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. This woman was a true inspiration to me and she will be temporarily missed (we will see her again). Please pray for Dr. Mike Perez (husband) & her two sons, one of them being my former player, Daniel Aaron Perez at this time. The Lord is worthy to be praised for allowing many who knew her to be blessed by her presence. The Perez family lives in San Antonio, TX. Thank you for those who will pray with me.

Jodie McGarity Jr.

Volleyball at Ann Richards
October 24, 2011
The Varsity squad travelled to south Austin for a match with the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.  While most schools celebrate homecoming during a football game, this volleyball match served as ARS' homecoming game.  So, the Royals competed in front of a capacity crowd of young ladies.  After recording a statement win in the first set, 25-8, Coach Laura was able to give court time to the entire bench and squeaked out two more victories, both 25-22.

The JV2 team followed with two losses, 8-25 and 20-25.

Cross Country - High School Centex Friday Night Flights Meet
October 20, 2011
The High School Cross Country teams participated in the Centex Friday Night Flights Meet at Cedar Park High School this past weekend.  Unlike a regular Cross Country meet, each individual runner on the team had their own start with waves of runners starting every five minutes.  The format provided excellent competition but made getting results difficult.  The final regular season meet will be this Friday at Vandegrift High School in Leander.

Varsity Volleyball Records First Ever Victory Against St. Andrews
October 18, 2011
For the first time in the history of the Austin Royals, the Varsity Volleyball team has beaten the St. Andrews Crusaders. With the second of two earlier JV matches going to a full three sets, the varsity match started at a very late 7:45pm.  Perhaps still recovering from the big tournament this past weekend, the Royals struggled with individual errors and defending the center of the court.  The first set was a loss, 15-25.  However, the Royals managed to rally and fought for control.  The next three sets were tight Royals victories, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-20.  Royals faithful fans cheered on their team throughout the long two-hour match.  As families were leaving, Coach Laura smiled and commented, "This was not our best match, yet it was epic in the sense that this is our first time ever beating St. Andrews.  I'm really proud of the girls for coming out on top."

In the earlier matches, JV2 played St. Andrews' 9th grade team, losing 13-25 and 18-25.  JV1 played an equally skilled St. Andrews JV squad. The match went the full three sets with the Royals just barely missing the mark: 21-25, 25-22, and 22-25.

Cross Country - Georgetown Invitational

October 12, 2011

Of the Austin Royals competitors who raced at the Georgetown Invitational at San Gabriel Park last Saturday, most ran their best times of the year if not ever.  About 200 runners competed in the  Junior High boys’ race, and Stephen MacClaren finished 6th and Marcus Johnson finished 9th.  Luke Crockett, John Umstadt, Andres Uriegas, Caleb Anchors, Chris Harris, and Andrew Hoskins also competed and ran very well finishing in the top 20-50% of the race.   Of about 250 runners in the Junior High Girls’ Race, Grace Hilscher finished 28th, with Katie Morgan and Tati Johnson close behind.   The cooler weather also helped in the Varsity races, with Rebecca Davis, Melody Malone, Emily Sanders, Emily Horton, Caroline Harris, Victoria Tankersley, Michael MacClaren, Zach Harris, Alex Harris, and Josh Bumpis all running personal bests or close to them!

Cross Country - Grass Routes Run Festival

October 4, 2011

Austin Royals Cross Country teams competed at the Grass Routes Run Festival at the Morris Williams Golf Course on Friday evening.  University of Texas Cross Country Coach Stephen Sissin said of the Cross Country course that there should be, “video footage of this course to show people how difficult it really is.”  Overcoming the rolling hills and taking first place was the Royals boys’ junior high team!  Team members included:  Stephen MacClaren, Luke Crockett, Will Hilscher, Andres Uriegas, and Caleb Anchors.  Marcus Johnson, who missed the junior high race, placed 5th in the JV high school race and earned himself a race T-shirt.  Also winning a T-shirt  were Grace Hilscher (2nd place in the junior high race) and Katie Morgan (5th place in the junior high race).  Special congratulations go to Tati Johnson, who finished 10th in the JV high school race after missing the junior high race.  The high school and junior high teams will compete again on Saturday at the Georgetown Invitational.

FCA Meeting

October 10, 2011

Dear Royals,
Below are the details about our monthly FCA meeting! All High school athletes are encouraged to come and feel free to invite your friends to this event. They do not have to be Royals athletes to come!  Hey everyone! For our October meeting we are going to Fields of Faith this Wednesday, October 12th,  at Dell Diamond. Tailgating starts at 5:30, look for purple shirts and a Royals Sign. If you can't come to the tailgating, the actual event starts at 7pm.

If you're coming to the tailgating, please bring a finger food to share. It needs to be something that can be easily carried or put away (nothing that requires utensils), as we will not be needing it once the event starts.

This is a Youth night, but it's open to people outside of FCA, so feel free to invite your friends and youth group! :)

Blessings,
Pam Lee
